A vision problem without proper correction can affect the proper development of children's daily life. I remember that it was at 8 years old when myopia was detected. At this same age, they detected my daughter's myopia as well.

I remember that at this time, I would sit in the penultimate seat in the classroom at school and little by little, without knowing that I had a vision problem, I was changing places and getting closer and closer to the blackboard, because I could not see what my teacher wrote on it.

My difficulty seeing was so great that in a few months, I was already sitting in the front row of the classroom. And it was thanks to my teacher, who sent a message to my parents to take me to the eye doctor, that my parents and I learned that I was nearsighted. And thank goodness, because myopia was already beginning to hinder my learning and my relationship with colleagues and friends.

Identifying and seeking to correct a problem in children's vision is the duty and mission of parents and teachers. The early detection of vision disorders in children can avoid problems in their learning, in their self-esteem, and affect their relationships with others. TheWorld Health Organization (WHO) makes an alert to parents about the importance of prevention and detection of vision problems in children.

The ‘lazy eye’ or amblyopia, for example, being directly related to early age, is one of the eye problems in childhood that can produce irreparable consequences if it is not detected in time and treated properly. According Felix Armadà, head of the Olfalmology Service at Hospital La Paz in Madrid, his treatment can only be applied up to 7 or 8 years. After this age, it is not possible to recover vision in this pathology.

For children to enjoy eye health, it is recommended that parents take their children to eye checks periodically from 3 or 4 years, and that in schools, early detection campaigns for vision problems in children are developed, as with vaccination. Only in this way will it be possible to prevent problems such as myopia, very common among children between 8 and 9 years old, astigmatism and hyperopia, from becoming even more complicated.

At home, what is proposed is that parents be aware of some signs that indicate difficulties in the vision of children, such as when children if they get very close to television or books, to be able to see.
